New resources for editors

by david ~ September 24th, 2008. Filed under: Features and Ideas.

From having worked a fair bit – mostly in moments between manic emailing, yearbook activity and big session stamp-licking – on making, amongst other things, PowerPoint look pretty (not an easy task, ladies and gentlemen), it’s nice to finally see the products up and available online.
For anyone who doesn’t know what I’m talking about, there’s [...]

Updating the AllYearbooks website

by jake ~ September 23rd, 2008. Filed under: Technology.

Well, I’m finally doing a monster chore that I’ve been putting off and putting off – updating the main ‘brochureware’ website with all the latest text and images.
The text and images are already written and taken – they’ve all been used in our brilliant information packs. The problem is there’s just been soooo much to [...]

Geekery

by nic ~ September 17th, 2008. Filed under: Around the Office.

Really boys, this is getting to be a bit of a geeky blog!  But I do agree with being called a non geeky colleague, especially as I have just spent 10 mins trying to remember my password!
I’m only non geeky in a coding type way tho, I can still handle a computer (even if I [...]

Using less Drupal

by jake ~ September 11th, 2008. Filed under: Drupal, Technology.

Lately, I’ve had various frustrations with Drupal which have moved me away from using it for various things. I’d like to go through where I’ve moved away from Drupal, why I’ve made those changes, and my future Drupal decisions.
Wordpress rather than Drupal blog
To begin with, this blog is now on Wordpress rather than Drupal – [...]

2008-2009 yearbook website launched!!!

by jake ~ September 10th, 2008. Filed under: News, Technology.

Woo… we’re there! After lots of debugging, last minute error catching, tweaks, geeky Linux commands and general mayhem, we’ve finally launched the new website
At around 13:37 this afternoon with only about 2 minutes of down time. Unfortunately there was no big red button to press, but the ‘launch sequence’ was something like this:

$ [...]

We’re going live… some time today!

by jamey ~ September 9th, 2008. Filed under: Technology.

Just a quick one, it looks like once Jake and I sort out the remaining bug fixes and an assortment of data processing jobs, we will be launching the new 2009 website! Some time by the end of today…
The great thing is that our lovely customers will now be able to sign up for a [...]

The speed of code

by david ~ September 5th, 2008. Filed under: Technology.

No photo’s of our workspace today. Nic’s got a day off, and the place looks a mite spartan without her flowing clothes and gekko tattoos.
On the other hand, I did just want to note the handiness of that far left screen covered in code. I asked Jake a good … oh … three minutes ago [...]

My work space

by jake ~ September 4th, 2008. Filed under: Around the Office.

This is my desk. I have lots of monitors! They’re all connected to my laptop (far right) which is showing a picture of my baby Benjamin in the photo. The left screen is where I edit all the code that makes AllYearbooks work, the middle one usually has a web browser open, and the right [...]

Woo!! Finally finished v1.0 of the information packs :)

by jake ~ September 4th, 2008. Filed under: Around the Office.

Oh my. That took for ever. But we’re finally there – at around 2pm today we send our 28 page stitch-folded yearbook information packs to the printers. We should have them back by next Wednesday or Friday at the latest to start handing out to our eager prospective customers. Below is a sneak-peak of page [...]
